We use don’t use ingredients that are on the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) red list. This is a list compiled by IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), which is regularly updated using the most current data available to raise awareness of plants and animals that are at risk of extinction.
Our product labels are biodegradable and all packaging we send our products out in is all either recyclable or biodegradable.
We are looking to eliminate all plastics from our products in the next 3 years.
Where there is a UK-grown source of an ingredient, we use that over a source grown elsewhere in the world, even if it is more expensive to do so.
We don’t use animal-derived ingredients. At all, ever.
Some ingredients have a larger impact on the environment than others. Palm oil is one of the most detrimental. Avenoir Perfumery do not and will not ever use palm oil or its derivatives in our products.
We hope to introduce optional carbon offsetting of our products on our website (emissions associated with delivery are already offset via Etsy when purchasing from our Etsy site).
All of our suppliers are based in the UK and/or Northern Ireland. As a business, we choose them carefully to keep shipping-related CO2 emissions as low as possible.
We ask all our suppliers to use recyclable or biodegradable packaging materials wherever possible, or to allow us to return them for reuse.
Avenoir Perfumery uses a green Web hosting company, which plants trees to offset the carbon emissions related to our website.
Behind The Scenes
Avenoir Perfumery recycles 95% of the waste produced during the production process. This has been reduced so that our waste is under 2kg a month.
Our mailing packaging is now a more environmentally friendly biodegradable unbleached alternative.
All of our products are handmade in the UK. There is no vast mechanical production line, just a small workshop with only 2 pieces of electrically powered equipment - our scales and a bottle filler. Every other process is done by hand or using hand-powered mechanical equipment.
We use Royal Mail to deliver our packages. Much of the last leg of the journey is done by foot - a much greener alternative than even using electric vehicles.
Currently, we have a small number of stockists which we deliver to by car, using a low emissions car to do so. But, we are looking to transition to using a fully electric vehicle within the next 3 years.
We have committed ourselves to the UK Government’s SME climate Commitment:
“Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature and society-at-large, our company commits to take action immediately in order to:
- Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030
- Achieve net-zero emissions before 2050
- Disclose our progress on a yearly basis
In doing so, we are proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join governments, businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world that share the same mission.”
Printing is only done when absolutely necessary, onto recycled paper. We use printer cartridges that are part of a closed-loop recycling system.
Our production area is kept clean with environmentally-friendly cleaning products - using refillable versions where possible.
We also recognise we are not perfect. there is always room for improvement. If you have any suggestions or questions about how we can improve our commitment to helping the environment and limiting the effects of climate change please contact us
